Mission: The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.
The Henrico County NAACP has been in the community fighting, negotiating, and protesting for the social justice of citizens in our community, across the state, and the nation. We have an organizational record of success that includes protecting the right to vote at the ballot box, and ensuring access to an equitable education in K-12 classrooms and higher education. The dedicated workers, organizers, and leaders who forged this great organization set the example for us to maintain its status as a champion of social justice. We are still here today and remain steadfast and immovable!
Everyday citizens upheld the tenets of social justice and became prominent historical figures in our society. They fought long and hard to ensure that the voices of African Americans and other disenfranchised groups would be heard. For over one hundred years, it has been the talent and tenacity of NAACP members that has saved lives and changed many negative aspects of American society. In Henrico County, the mission is stronger than ever and we remain dedicated to the cause.
