Short Pump Middle School – Locker Room Incident
The Henrico NAACP is aware of the egregious incident that happened at Short Pump Middle School on October 13th in the boys locker room. The actions taken by the youth at Short Pump Middle School are indicative of a larger societal problem which still persists today, racism. The mission of the NAACP is to eliminate racial discrimination and racial hatred.
At this time, we are working directly with one of the families of the students impacted to assist them in dealing with this traumatic event through our network of professionals. Also, we have communicated with the school division to make them aware of our concerns regarding the matter and for them to conduct a fair, impartial, and just investigation of the facts. Our expectation is that the proper discipline is levied based on the infraction according to the Student Code of Conduct and to be complemented with counseling for the antagonists and the victims.
Over the course of the next week, we will be partnering with other serious organizations and individuals to create a coalition to develop a plan of action to save the next generation from the insidious nature of racism through various mechanisms.
